The condition of the 2009 corn and soybean crop currently in storage may contribute to difficulty in removing the crop and increase the potential for flowing grain-related entrapments and suffocations. The frequency of these events during 2009 was the second highest on record and incidents documented during the first 3 months of 2010 suggest another year with more than the average number of incidents. To address this concern, Purdue Extension will be conducting at least seven regional Grain Storage Rescue Training Workshops over the next couple of months. The workshops will focus on both prevention and effective first response strategies. The target audience includes emergency first responders who may not be familiar with the problem of flowing grain engulfment. Please download the flyer (link above) for additional information on the workshop, including dates, locations, and contents. Class size will be limited and pre-payment is require to hold a space. The registration fee is $65 and includes breaks and lunch.
